Michael Giersig is full professor and head of the Depeartment of Continous Media and Nanostructures at Institute of Fundamental Technological Research, Polish Academy of Sciences. He works on the fabrication of nanometer-sized semiconductor, metallic, and magnetic particles, followed by the creation of periodically ordered nanostructures (1-D, 3-D) based on single nanoparticles. He is author of 350 scientific journal articles and book chapters covering physics, chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, medicine, nanotechnology and engineering.
